Q: How is the procedure done?
A: Most often the procedure is performed here in our AAAHC accredited operating room under local anesthesia with sedation. Medication is given through an IV. When the numbing is complete the doctor will begin removing the fat from under the skin with suction and a thin metal tube called a microcannula. Medication is administered through an IV throughout the procedure to insure your comfort. Most people will be in the office 2-5 hours on the day of their procedure. You will need a friend or family member to drive you home and stay with you the rest of the day and night. If you wish to have complete confidentiality from friends and family there are services available.

Tummy Tuck

Q: What is Abdominoplasty (tummy tuck)?
A: Abdominoplasty or a tummy tuck flattens the abdomen by removing excess skin and fat. A bikini line incision is made to facilitate the removal of the excess skin. the same incision is used to access and tighten the muscles of your abdomen. There are two options for a tummy tuck; Full abdominoplasty is the choice when the most correction is needed. This procedure tightens the skin from the breastbone to the public area. it will take 2-4 hours and is performed under general anesthesia. When less correction is needed a mini abdominoplasty is an option and the skin is tightened from the navel to the pubic area. During your Personal Consultation, Dr. Garfinkle will discuss with you your desired results and determine the appropriate procedure to attain those results.

Q: What is the recovery time for Abdominoplasty (tummy tuck)?
A: Average time off work following abdominoplasty is 2-4 weeks. This will vary some with the type of work, for instance a very physical job requiring lifting, bending & stooping would tend to require more time off than a job that requires sitting at a desk. Strenuous activities will need to be avoided 6-12 weeks. Dr. Garfinkle will evaluate your personal recovery and will recommend when you can resume all normal activities.

Q: Who is a candidate for Abdominoplasty (tummy tuck)?
A: Men and women in good general health with loose skin in the abdomen that does not respond to diet and exercise.
